We hear the word missionary and we often think about those faithfully and courageously living in far away places. Yet, as followers of Jesus Christ, we are all on mission at work, in our homes, our communities, and even in our church.
We are to be lights on a hill reflecting God’s truth, love and hope so that those in the dark may see the light of truth.
This is one of the great blessings of work. It gets us out among other people, often times, nonbelievers, and gives us opportunities to contribute to a worthy cause, help others, encourage, lead, and minister to needs.
I’m grateful for work even though I may not always appreciate it as I should. For once I get among others and start contributing to a common cause, aspire to lead my team well, and represent my boss and company well, and help others, I am always better for it.
We will no doubt get stressed and weary at times, but the opportunities work presents for us to be sources of hope, truth, and reflections of Christ’s love are powerful – and empower us to be missionaries at work too.
So, this week, and every work week, may our light shine before men in such a way that they may see our good works, and glorify our Father who is in heaven (Matthew 5:16).
