Over the holidays, I was watching a documentary with some family members about a couple who travelled around the world in the pursuit for “happiness”. However, they eventually discovered, as we all do, that happiness is fleeting. It’s allusive and never permanent.
Instead, life is full of ups and downs, and they flow together. When we consider it, even though we think we want a permanent state of happiness all the time, in reality, that would in fact dull our experience. For the low times help us appreciate the good times.
We’ve heard the question, why does God allow bad things to happen? However, it’s because of God anything good happens in the first place. For God is good, and all good things flow from Him (James 1:17).
So, instead of making a life pursuing happiness, which is so unpredictable and fleeting – a life pursing God is much wiser. For with, in and through Him, we get life and experience it more abundantly (John 10:10)!
