Silencing The Storms

A fire of restlessness consumed my soul, and far too many years were wasted in vain attempts to quench the burn. Of course, nothing in this world could – no measure of success, promotion, praise, romance, relationship, intoxicant, and/or pursuit.

Only a temporary cooling could they provide, but in time, the remaining embers raged back into a blaze. Then, off to races I would go – back to the vain pursuit to quiet the restlessness.

I carry these memories with me today as a precious reminder to all Jesus Christ has done for me. Turning to Him, releasing to Him, trusting Him, growing to know Him, and loving Him has allowed me to know the peace that surpasses all understanding.

Though the lost fires beg to be re-stoked, I now know the lies they hold. Promising to satisfy, they only drain our life – Christ gives life. Though troubles and trials will always come, these storms can no longer entangle us. For He has set us free.

Therefore, do not allow the fires or the storms of this world and our flesh to overrule what we as believers know to be true – “fear not, for I (Jesus Christ) will never leave you, or forsake you (Hebrews 13:5). I will lead you beside still waters (Psalm 23:2), and in me, you will find living water and never thirst again” (John 4:14).
